This year’s Alumni Day — Saturday, May 18th — has even more meaning than in past years. It will be coincide with the opening of the Centennial Celebration of UCLA. That’s right… UCLA is turning 100 years old. And Alumni Day will kickoff the year-long celebration that’s been 100 years in the making!
The days’ festivities will feature several faculty, influential campus and civic leaders, and alumni industry experts, discussing several topics important to the UCLA community and to UCLA alumni. Speakers include current UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, Chancellor Emeritus Charles Young, Chancellor Emeritus Albert Carnesale, Assistant Vice Chancellor Peter Angelis, and Dean Kelsey Martin of the David Geffen School of Medicine.
Alumni Day will also feature behind-the-scene tours of UCLA’s “limited access” places, such as a Campus Art Tour, allowing alumni to discover museum-level art tucked into the various nooks and crannies all over campus. Other tours and experiences include the UCLA Athletics Facilities Tour, which takes alumni inside the state-of-the-art Mo Ostin Basketball and Wasserman Football Centers, as well as the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame, located next to the UCLA Luskin Conference Center. But perhaps the most interesting experience will be taking a peak at “UCLA’s worst kept secret” — the long-rumored labyrinthe network of tunnels that link major buildings on the campus.
Because of the scope and number of events, speakers, tours, and sessions, you’ll want to stay nearby at the most convenient location possible, which is on campus itself at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center. It’s perfect for alumni visiting campus for the weekend, since it’s just a few minutes walk away from the festivities. Conveniently located near the main entrance of the university, the Luskin Conference Center offers not only modern and comfortable lodging with king and double queen bed options, but also several amenities that make for a relaxing and memorable stay.
Joining in the Centennial Celebration for this weekend only, the UCLA Luskin Conference Center is offering two packages — a two-night stay Centennial Platinum Package, and a one-night stay Centennial Alumni Package. Both packages come with other perks, including your own copy of the UCLA: First 100 Years book.
Each package also means that you will enjoy the delicious cuisine of the on-site restaurant, Plateia. The Centennial Platinum Package includes dinner on Saturday night as well as complimentary breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the Centennial Alumni Package includes dinner on Saturday night. You can explore all the menus at Platiea, by visiting the Plateia website. Be sure to take advantage of our beautiful al fresco patio with a glass of wine and or a cocktail after a day full of activities.
