Tony Berlant
Title: Flame
Medium: Found and Fabricated Printed Tin Collaged on Plywood with Steel Brads . 2011
Location:

Not only is Tony Berlant an important Los Angeles artist, but he is also an avid collector. One of his collections is of Mimbres Pottery, which was created in southwestern New Mexico between 1000–1130 CE. Although Mimbres Pottery appears to be mostly geometric, Berlant and others believe the designs are based on natural forms, including the datura plant and other desert flora known for their hallucinogenic properties. In other words, Berlant and others believe the imagery is, in fact, a visual representation of a drug trip.
