Title: Call Her Green and the Winters Cannot Fade Her
Medium: Oil on Board. 2012
Location:

The title of this painting “Call Her Green and the Winters Cannot Fade Her” comes from the song “Little Green” written by Joni Mitchell in 1966. At the time, Mitchell was a poor folk singer living in Toronto, Canada. Finding herself unexpectedly pregnant, she decided to give birth to the child and put her up for adoption. Mitchell kept the story secret but included this verse in a song written shortly afterward.

Child with a child pretending
Weary of lies you are sending home
So you sign all the papers in the family name
You’re sad and you’re sorry but you’re not ashamed
Little green, have a happy ending
