SELF-GUIDED ART TOUR

Lari Pittman
Title: This Landscape, Beloved, and Despised, Continues Regardless
Medium: Color Lithograph. 1989
Location:

This smooth, even shiny, lithograph deliberately flattens illusionistic space. Its juxtaposition of graphic elements — like Victorian silhouettes, coffins and runaway arrows — is characteristic of the artist’s work.

Pittman attended UCLA from 1970-73, before dropping out. He completed his BFA and MFA at the California Institute of the Arts. He became a distinguished professor of painting and drawing at UCLA before becoming emeritus in 2021.
